Air Cadets Seaforth of C

Lt. Colin Stevens, Seaforth Highlanders of Canada, August 1972. Weapon is SMG C1. Radio is PRC 25. I am wearing a mixture of P51 and P-67 webbing.

Short cruise on HMCS Porte de la Reine. Ordinary Seaman. This ship was apparently launched in Dec. 28, 1951 in Victoria, BC. http://www.comradesandcolleagues.com/unitlst/CAUnits1340.asp 

HMCS GATINEAU cap tally.jpg (29222 bytes)  HMCS Gatineau, Destroyer Escort - Cruise from Halifax, NS via Bermuda, Panama, Manzanillo, Acapulco, San Diego to Esquimalt (near Victoria, BC). This was in the summer of 1969 and I was an 18 year old Ordinary Seaman. We took her to Esquimalt for ASROC conversion. Captain Hughes (later Rear-Admiral) was the skipper. We saw the Navy hydrofoil HMCS Bras D'Or fly into the harbour in Halifax and in Bermuda, I sat on the stern and looked up at the moon as I listened to the live broadcast on my transistor radio of the first man to walk on the moon (A few years later I got to meet Colonel Neil Armstrong). Summer of 1969.
