United Nations Forces in Cyprus. These were peacekeeping forces and Canada was a major participant from 1964 onwards. The mission has now ended but I believe it was the longest running UN tasking for Canada. The first jeeps we sent were M38A1CDN jeeps, with Quebec licence plates.Later M38A1CDN2 jeeps were sent. At least one, and possibly most or all of these were returned to Canada. One survives in the collection of the Canadian Military Remembrance Society www.cmilitaryremembrance.com That jeep is M38A1 CDN2 CFR 67-08254 Serial number 7105-97521.Later these were replaced by M38A1CDN3 jeeps. Those jeeps were scrapped on site when they were no longer needed.Note that the jeeps were still factory green colour with UN decals. The painting them white in Cyprus came AFTER 1974. Can anyone tell us when? We are looking for the marking instructions for UN vehicles - ideally those in Canadian service.
