WWII photo from Library and Archives Canada. The original USA registration
number is visible on front left side.
The Staghound armoured car was designed by the Americans for the British in
WWII. It would have been ideal for the North African desert. It was built
by GM and had automatic transmission. It was basically a tank on wheels and had
a turret with a 37mm cannon. Canada used some in WWII and post-war.

In 1956-7 the regular army recalled the Ferret Scout Cars and issued
Staghounds.

Two of about 50 Staghounds in a British Columbia dealer's yard before they
were scrapped.
A few Staghounds have survived. One is restored completely and is in a
private collection in Alberta.

The Canadian War Museum has one, though it did not serve in Canadian Army as
far as we know.

The one that was at Camp Borden (CFB Borden) is now (2007) in CFB Petawawa
with the Royal Canadian Dragoons.
