Major HD Proctor, RCCS
The following information is from Bob Janik on 2004-10-16 robertjanik_84 (at)
msn.com ex-RCCS:
The first, Major HD Proctor (RC Signals), who was killed on his first jump
while leading the first Canadian contingent to train at Fort Benning. He was
killed on 7 Sep 42 when the trailing aircraft flew into him. Proctor Field at
Camp Shilo, the Cdn home of 1 Can Para and subsequently the first Cdn para trg
facility is named after him. His remains were returned to Canada for burial in
Ottawa. Major Proctor was selected as the first CO based on his pre-eminent
credentials and strength of character, and those of us who have served in
"Airborne Signals" are enormously proud of the association of both
Airborne and Signals.
