Jeff Nicklin

Blue Bombers football player.

Strong disciplinarian.

Not liked by some of the soldiers. In a football game between the troops, he was tackled hard and broke a collar bone. He was however respected by fellow officers such as Fraser Eadie.

Killed by gunfire from below while parachuting onto drop zone in Operation Varsity into Germany in Match 1945.  Official story, backed up by Fraser Eadie is that it was German machinegun fire from below as he was floating down. I however have heard RUMOURS that Nicklin was hung up in a tree and shot by one of his own men. Farfetched, especially in a battle, but I heard it from a couple of vets. There were other vets however who felt that he was killed by the Germans (he had landed almost on top of a German machinegun post).
