  Air Cadets
Seaforth of C

18 Sqn
583 Sqn

Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, CANADA

NEWS FLASH:   In August 2001 the squadron  MOVED from the crowded space behind the Bingo Hall in Maple Ridge to the newly constructed offices at the ALBION FAIR GROUNDS at the East end of Maple Ridge, just off the Lougheed Highway. The cadets have the use of a couple of the large buildings already on the site.

Captain Colin Stevens, CD  is a reserve forces officer and was the Deputy Commanding Officer for this squadron and was also the Administrative Officer for about 5 years.  I am no longer with the squadron, having gone SUPRESERVE in late 2001.

Air Cadets is a FREE membership activity for Canadian youth aged 12 to 18. They learn about flying, good citizenship, map reading, survival, target shooting etc. The squadron has a marching band and numbers about 60 to 80 cadets. They go flying in gliders and powered aircraft. They have the chance to go on free summer camps, scholarships and the chance to earn their pilot's wings for both gliding and powered flight. Tours of military bases are also arranged.

583 Coronation Squadron band won the trophy for being the BEST cadet band in BC a couple of years ago. The swim team, drill team also came first in their competitions. This is a great bunch of cadets!
